A Plea to the Virginia Senate

Dear Senators of the Finance Committee,
Please don’t expand government control of Virginians’ health care.
Please don’t allow hundreds of thousands of Virginians to become government dependents.
Please don’t jeopardize Virginia’s resources by signing up for a fiscally unsustainable program.
Please don’t erode the quality of health care in Virginia by making physicians work for the government.
Please stand up against the crony, corrupt hospital lobby.
Please demand and lead the way to a “clean budget” for Virginia, a budget free of Obamacare’s Medicaid Expansion.

    Medicaid Expansion
Medicaid is not healthcare. It is government health insurance.
Expansion will not improve access to care, the health of those enrolled, or lower the cost
    of care.
Medicaid dollars are low-value to enrollees: only 20-40 cents/$ is spent on actual care.
    Medicaid traps Virginians in welfare.
The program lacks individual accountability for improved health outcomes, and
    incentives to become self-sufficient.
Expanding welfare dependency into the middle-class is wrong for Virginia.
Enrollment has exceeded estimates in every expansion state by an average of 55%.*
Virginia could expect 506,000 able-bodied adults to enroll.
Expansion would harm the most vulnerable, by crowding out resources for truly needy
    Virginians.
KEEP EXPANSION OUT OF THE BUDGET!!
Medicaid Expansion is a budget buster.
No state that expanded Medicaid has been able to restrain costs.
Expansion would cost Virginia at least $28.8B over ten years.
Medicaid spending growth impacts Education in Virginia. Cuts to higher education
funding (nearly halved since FY 85) gave rise to tuition hikes, shutting out lower-income
Virginia students from college education and diminishing prospects for good-paying jobs.
    REFORM MEDICAID NOW by
    Demanding measurable health outcomes
Insisting on zero tolerance of waste and fraud
Imposing work requirements for non-disabled adults
    Obtaining program efficiencies.
HOLD THE LINE AGAINST MEDICAID EXPANSION!
