Letter to President Trump

March 31, 2017
President Donald J. Trump
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20050
Dear President Trump,
Thursday, March 30th, was a very dark day when we learned that the House Freedom Caucus members had been castigated by your Twitter message. We felt so demoralized and betrayed when you attacked them, and we are not alone, as you undoubtedly have begun to see. In your recent speeches you have told crowds that you “love the people of (state) and that you will never ever forget what they did” (to get you elected.) We feel that your criticisms of conservatives and the Freedom Caucus over the healthcare fiasco indicate you have already forgotten those people. Was this a fatal error? Hopefully not, but it was at least a very serious setback to the people’s ability to trust anyone in Washington DC. We feel certain that in time it will become clear that the Freedom Caucus actually SAVED your Presidency AND the GOP future, by opposing the flawed American Health Care Act (AHCA). We hope you will extend an olive branch to them, and NOT to the Democrats who only want to bring you down and obstruct you at every turn. They need to earn a place at the table, and you cannot afford to marginalize the conservatives in Congress, especially the Freedom Caucus. After all, it was their spirit that swept you into office and gave hope to millions of Americans last November.
Members of Virginians for Quality Healthcare (VQH) individually and collectively feel this way. Ours is a grassroots organization that has for five years been opposing Obamacare and striving to return affordable, quality healthcare to patients and their doctors, in a free-market system. The AHCA did not have our support, because it does not repeal Obamacare, it does not unleash the free market, and it IS the path to socialized medicine.
PLEASE ASK CONGRESS to send you a clean repeal bill right away, and then take up work on a very limited set of smaller bills to fix whatever needs to be fixed. Above all, healthcare authorities should revert to the States where solutions can be customized and where citizens can have more voice in legislative outcomes in healthcare. The
role of the federal government must be significantly reduced. We truly hope you will give Americans a sign that the very people who are fighting to preserve American values and individual liberty have your respect. With transparency, inclusiveness and unity, we can get the job done.
